Mercedes and Jaguar set for Pebble Beach

Written By Info Zone on Monday, August 13, 2012 | 4:19 PM

While Chrysler, Ford and General Motors concentrate on the Woodward Dream Cruise, Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar are preparing for Pebble Beach weekend.
Mercedes will host a tribute to the W194-chassis SL roadster. It will also show 45 years of its performance arm AMG and display the Concept Style Coupe, which we first saw in Los Angeles before the China motor show.
Six variations of the SL will be on display at the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge. The 2013 Mercedes SL63 will stand next to the vintage versions, highlighting the technological progress of the past 60 years. The vintage SLs will also lead the Tour d'Elegance on Aug. 16.
For AMG's 45th birthday, the company will line up an SLS AMG and the new C63 Black Series next to the SL63. All told, the 2013 AMG range will consist of 17 vehicles with outputs ranging from 415 hp to 621 hp. Prospective buyers will be able to take test drives during The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering on Aug. 16 and 17.
The Concept Style Coupe will take its place on the green with its new turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 211 hp and featuring all-wheel drive. Though it's called a coupe, the CSC has four doors and a roofline like the CLS sedan's.

Jaguar
The Jaguar XJL Ultimate will be on display at Pebble Beach.

Jaguar and Land Rover will be following the three-pointed star's lead with the newest version of the XJ line--the Jaguar XJL Ultimate--to be revealed at the Quail. The Ultimate edition focuses on rear-seat amenities, making the vehicle an office on wheels for the jet set. Test drives of 2012 models will also be offered.
On Friday, Aug. 17, Jaguar will host an invite-only affair in conjunction with Playboy magazine, where it will celebrate what Jaguar calls the “rebirth” of the brand.
Land Rover will continue its celebration of the brand's 25th anniversary in North America. It will feature a display of the current models while offering test drives. Drivers can choose from two locations for the test, either at the Quail or at Laguna Seca; both will include off-road elements.
Pebble Beach week starts with the Tour d'Elegance on Thursday, Aug. 16; RetroAuto happens on Friday, and the Concours d'Elegance goes off on Sunday, Aug. 19. The Quail is held separately on Friday at The Lodge in Carmel Valley.
